Course Objectives:
(1) Provide sludge and greasy waste collection services
- Recognise the different types of Class C general waste
- Identify the types of waste collection points
- Identify the types of receptacles and holding tanks
- Identify the types of consumables required for waste collection
- Identify appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used for waste collection and disposal of Class C general waste
- Describe the methods and procedures to inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment used for collection
- Describe the methods to maintain waste collection areas
- Describe the appropriate methods to collect Class C general waste
- Describe the guidelines and procedures for discharging and/or disposing of sludge and/or greasy waste at Public Utilities Board (PUB)’s Water Reclamation Plants (WRPs)
- Recognize the importance of adhering to Environmental Public Health Act
- Recognize the importance of adhering to Sewerage and Drainage Act
(2) Respond to incidents and emergencies
- Ensure vehicles and equipment used are in good working condition prior to deployment
- Operate, inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment used for Class C general waste collection
- Recognize the importance of adhering to Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) guidelines
- Recognize the importance of adhering to road safety guidelines
(3) Handle tools and equipment
- Use appropriate PPE to perform waste collection and disposal
- Operate, inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment used for Class C general waste collection
- Perform waste collection in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational procedures
- Ensure waste collected are secured within the tankers and equipment used for Class C general waste
- Ensure waste collection point is cleaned up in the event of spillages during collection
- Discharge and/or dispose sludge and/or greasy waste at PUB’s WRPs in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational procedures
- Replenish consumables in preparation for next waste collection trip
Course Content:
This course will equip learners of Class C GWC licensees with the knowledge and abilities required to carry out collection of sludge and greasy waste as Crew/Driver.
Minimum Entry Requirement:
Other than meeting the job requirements listed in the Job Role
“Crew/Driver” in the Waste Management Progressive Wage Model (PWM), learners should be able to listen to, speak, read, and write English, as well as manipulate numbers, at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills (ES) Level 2.
