Course Objectives:
(1) Provide waste and recyclables collection services
- Identify the types of Class A and Class B general and recyclable waste
- Identify the types of waste suitable/unsuitable to be loaded onto compaction vehicles
- Identify the types of waste collection points for compaction vehicles
- Identify the types of stationary, enclosed containers and/or waste storage bins
- Identify the types of loading equipment and devices used by compaction vehicles
- Describe the methods and procedures to inspect and maintain the loading equipment, packing systems and devices
- Describe the procedures to operate loading equipment and devices used by compaction vehicles
- Identify the types of consumables required for waste collection
- Identify appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to be used for waste collection and disposal
- Describe the procedures to collect waste from bulk bins
- Describe the procedures to collect waste from stationary and/or enclosed containers at centralised refuse chutes and/or bin centres
- Describe the procedures to dispose waste at disposal facilities
- Recognize the importance of adhering to Environmental Public Health Act
(2) Respond to incidents and emergencies
- Ensure compaction vehicles are in good working condition prior to deployment
- Operate, inspect and maintain the loading equipment, packing systems and devices
- Recognize the importance of adhering to Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) guidelines
- Recognize the importance of adhering to road safety guidelines
(3) Handle tools and equipment
- Use appropriate PPE to perform general and/or recyclable waste collection and disposal
- Perform waste collection ensuring self and other road users’ safety
- Perform waste collection in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational procedures
- Operate, inspect and maintain the loading equipment, packing systems and devices
- Ensure waste collected are secured in containment containers
- Ensure that there is no sullage water leakage and mechanical covers are lowered before leaving waste collection points
- Dispose general and recyclable waste in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational procedures
- Replenish consumables in preparation for next waste collection trip
Course Content:
This course will equip learners of GWC licensees with the knowledge and abilities required to use appropriate compaction vehicles and equipment to collect, compress, transport and dispose waste as Driver.
Minimum Entry Requirement:
Other than meeting the job requirements listed in the Job Role “Driver” in the Waste Management Progressive Wage Model (PWM), learners should be able to listen to, speak, read, and write English, as well as manipulate numbers, at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills (ES) Level 2. Learners must possess a valid Singapore Class 4 Driving Licence.
